Ropin' and Wranglin' The Cyber Outlaws

Ropin' and Wranglin' The Cyber Outlaws

Well, partner, pull up a hay bale and listen to this yarn of digital desperados. Seems a young cowboy by the name of Eric Council Jr., fresh outta the mean ol' age of 26, found himself rustlin' up to a 14-month stay in the hoosegow. Ain't got nothin' on my old nag of a horse, who's been rustlin' with me for decades, but this feller's got three years of supervised rodeo too! All thanks to his little tech rodeo with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's X account. Bet he's wishin' now he'd just stuck to ropin’ steer instead of tryin’ to play with the high-tech tumbleweeds of the west.

High-Tech Shenanigans

The ol' town crier – also known as the U.S. Department of Justice – hollered out the judgment like they were callin' cattle at a roundup. Council and his band of digital bandits lassoed up the SEC’s X account back in '24. They tossed out a cattle prod of a message, sayin' them Bitcoin exchange traded funds had been greenlit by the SEC itself. Naturally, that sent the price leapin' like a scared jackrabbit before it fell back down flat as a flapjack! My long-sufferin’ wife says these antics are as wild as a snake in a boot.

The Digital Outlaw's Gambit

Now, how'd these techno-rascals pull off such a heist, you ask? Well, ever heard of a SIM swap attack? It's the modern-day version of swappin’ horses mid-race. They got their digital spurs into the cellphone account of a guardian of the SEC's X account, pilferin' control of their number faster than a rattler strike. Just like how my wife's been tryin' to snatch control of our remote for decades!

Once the hackers planted their flag, they reset the account’s password, stampedin’ their way into control quicker than a tornado through a tumbleweed town.

So, next time you folks reckon about takin' the easy money trail, just remember Council Jr. and his high-tech bandits. Otherwise, you best stick to cowboyin’ and maybe trust your old horse more than horsin’ around with tech! Yeeahahh!
