Howdy folks! Black Forest Labs, that there AI outfit behind X's Grok chatbot's image-making smarts, has just saddled up a brand new set of models that can spin pictures out of nothin' and even tinker with 'em on the fly.
Introducing Flux.1 Kontext
Now, the top dog in this new lineup is called Flux.1 Kontext. This varmint can whip up an image faster than a tumbleweed in a dust storm. Just give it a text prompt, and maybe a picture to guide it, and it'll do the rest, accordin' to a blog post by Black Forest Labs.
"These here Flux.1 Kontext models round up state-of-the-art output with a keen eye for prompts, lifelike renderings, and fine script typography," the company declares, "and all that at speeds up to 8 times quicker than the current models ridin' the range."
The Competition Heats Up
Flux.1 Kontext rides into town right when the image-generatin' showdown is heatin' up. Over at Google, they showed off their Imagen 4 at the latest hoedown for tech folks. Earlier on, them folks at OpenAI sent ChatGPT out the gate with a spruced-up image maker that went wild creatin' art like it come straight from a Studio Ghibli flick.
Y'all can now meet FLUX.1 Kontext, a suite of generative flow matchers that help rustle up and edit images. Gegensatz to traditional models, Kontext wrangles both words and pictures, so you can create right inside the scene itself. Ain't that somethin'? pic.twitter.com/zleJGuXDge
Flux.1 Kontext Models: Pro and Max
Them Flux.1 Kontext models ride in pairs: Flux.1 Kontext [pro] and Flux.1 Kontext [max]. The [pro] variant lets folks fiddle with images over several "turns," holdin' onto characters and styles like a cowboy clingin' to his hat in a windstorm. The [max] version? It's all 'bout speed, steadiness, and followin' prompts to a T.
Grinnin' wide, we say hello to FLUX.1 Kontext, the newfangled image-editing gear from Black Forest Labs. It's ripe for pickin' over at Replicate. Change outfits, redo scenes, swap out text—all with a few words. It just works like a charm 🔥

Availability and Testing
Unlike some old models from Black Forest Labs, Flux.1 Kontext [pro] and Flux.1 Kontext [max] won't let you take 'em offline. But don’t hang your hat just yet—an "open" version called Flux.1 Kontext [dev] is hittin' private beta for research and safety rodeo.
Folks can try out these contraptions at a model play area without signin' up with any third parties. New riders get a stack of 200 credits, enough to craft a dozen images using Flux.1 Kontext [pro].
Backing and Development
Black Forest Labs, callin' Germany their home ranch, were chatterin' 'bout rustlin' up $100 million on a $1 billion valuation by the year's end. Some of the top wranglers cut their teeth at Stability AI, the outfit behind the infamous Stable Diffusion model. Their posse of backers includes Andreessen Horowitz, Oculus co-founder Brendan Iribe, and Y Combinator’s own Garry Tan.
Since it shook its head and came outta stealth, Black Forest Labs rustled up a herd of image-spinnin' models and services aimed at the big outfit clients, includin' a handy API.
